Lost first season?

After the play-off game against the Amstelland Panthers , lost with 60-0 (or was it 58-0, according to the referees?), the cadets can ask themselves: did we ‘lose’ our first season. During the last practice they tackled and played like hell, but during the game they learned how to play real football. The Panthers were faster, more aggressive and more athletic  than our team thought first. But looking back at the first season the cadets don’t have to be ashamed, they’ve learned the game the hard way and became third in the competition. Now the juniors have to work at their  game mentality and toughness  and they can again reach the play-offs next season.

Last year July they started with five guys who liked it to throw a ball, run and tackle their opponent. Three guys went to summer camp in August together with some young seniors of the Wildcats and some juniors of the Falcons and Pirates, under the inspiring lead of David, Javan, Lars and Bart and of course Astrid and Ron. After the summer holiday was over, everything  build up quickly. First the coaches asked themselves if they should enlist a team for the competition. They decided to take the chance when more players came. On February 21st  the first game was played with 13 players. The team grew up to 21 registered players and there are a few guys who are interested.

The Wildcats are still looking for guys who want to become a team member. From the cadets this season 13 guys will become junior (16-19 year), so there will be 14 juniors next season. To play in the 9 vs 9 competition they still need at least four juniors, but it’s better to have about 25 players in a team.

The cadets (14-16 year) will be with seven players next season and are looking for at least another seven players to take part in the 7 vs 7 competition.

Also non-Dutch speaking guys are welcome to join the team. Because it’s American football, English is the working language and the coaches speak English and German.

This year’s summer camp is from August 23rd till 27th. 19 players of the Wildcats have already signed up and there are a few other players who are also interested. Verloren eerste seizoen?

Na de verloren play-off wedstrijd tegen de Amstelland Panthers met 60-0 (of was het 58-0, volgens de scheidsrechters?), kunnen de cadetten zichzelf de vraag stellen of het eerste seizoen ‘verloren’ was. Gedurende de laatste training tackelde en speelde ze of hun leven ervan af hing, maar gedurende de wedstrijd hebben ze ondervonden hoe het echte football gespeeld wordt.  De Panthers waren sneller, agressiever en atletischer dan de Wildcats zich voorgesteld hadden. Maar terugkijkend op het eerste seizoen, hoeven ze zich niet te schamen. Ze hebben het spel op een harde manier geleerd en zijn derde in de competitie geworden. Nu gaan werken aan hun wedstrijd instelling en hardheid en volgend seizoen kunnen ze het weer tot de play-offs schoppen.

Vorig jaar juli zijn ze begonnen met vijf jongens die het leuk vonden om met een bal te gooien, te rennen en de tegenstander om te kegelen. Drie van deze jongens zijn in augustus op zomerkamp geweest met enkele jonge senioren van de Wildcats en een paar junioren van de Falcons en Pirates,  onder inspirerende begeleiding van David, Javan, Lars en Bart en natuurlijk Astird en Ron. Na de schoolvakantie is alles in een stroomversnelling terecht gekomen. Eerst vroegen de coaches zich af of ze wel een team in moesten schrijven voor de competitie. Na de beslissing om dit toch te doen, meldden zich meer spelers. Op 21 februari werd de eerste wedstrijd gespeeld met 13 spelers. Intussen is het team gegroeid tot 21 geregistreerde spelers en zijn er nog enkele jongens die ook interesse hebben.

De Wildcats zijn nog steeds op zoek naar jongens die ons willen komen versterken. Van de cadetten van dit jaar worden 13 jongens volgend seizoen junior ( 16 t/m 19 jaar), zodat er volgend jaar 14 juniors zijn. Om aan de 9 vs 9 competitie mee te doen zijn er nog minimaal vier junioren nodig, maar beter is om ongeveer 25 spelers te hebben.

De cadetten (14 t/m 16 jaar) zijn volgend jaar met zeven spelers en zoeken nog eens minimaal  zeven spelers om volgend seizoen ook aan de 7 vs 7 competitie mee te kunnen doen.

Ook niet Nederlands sprekende jongens zijn van harte welkom. Omdat het football betreft is Engels de voertaal en de coaches zijn Engels en Duits sprekend.

Het zomerkamp vindt dit jaar plaats van 23 t/m 27 augustus. Er hebben zich intussen 19 juniors van de Wildcats aangemeld en er is ook nog interesse van andere spelers. Dus als het je leuk lijkt om gedurende 5 dagen te proberen of American Football een sport voor jou is, meld je dan aan voor het kamp.
